In brand new homes the ducts
are cleaned to eliminate the drywall dust and construction
material e.g. drywall pieces, nails, tools, wood pieces,
pop cans, beer bottles, lunch bags and whatever else
drops in or is swept down the vents. In older homes
it is not uncommon to encounter a buildup of dirt and
debris 1-3 inches thick inside the ducts including construction
material, tools, pet hairs, playing cards, toys, magazines,
clothes, dead insects, spiders, mice, birds, cats and
squirrels. One rare request was to retrieve eight $50.00
bills which a young child had dropped into a register.
The bills were embedded in dirt for three weeks, but
yes, with a lot of spot checking, we retrieved the eight
bills for the customer.
